Dear Supporters of the Kathleen Bennett Foundation of Hope for Ovarian Cancer
We at KBF wish all of you, our loyal supporters, the best of Holidays, a very Merry Christmas, and a great 2012. We have significant news to present regarding the future of KBF which will give us greater impact in meeting our goals of defeating ovarian cancer. Background As a small foundation, we have accomplished a lot in two years. We have created interest, awareness, support, and raised significant funds to use in our programs of awareness and education about this disease. This has been accomplished by a small and extremely dedicated group of volunteers and Board members. We, as a Board of Directors, have recognized that, increasingly, our efforts were being directed to the operations of the Foundation and not directed specifically toward the Mission. This burden of activity has fallen on this small group to organize, advocate, and govern which has reduced the time we have spent on Mission. In the summer of 2011, Board members of KBF began discussions with other 501c3 organizations in Colorado who are active in the ovarian cancer battle and whose missions align with KBF. After much discussion, thought, and consideration, the KBF Board has chosen to combine our efforts with COCA (the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance) in order to better leverage our talents, funds, and efforts toward our goals. COCA’s mission and programs align well with KBF’s. COCA desires to see Kathy’s vision continue and believes this can do so as an initiative within COCA. Accordingly, the Board of Directors of KBF chose voluntary dissolution of KBF, transfer of the assets of KBF to COCA, and to work as an initiative of COCA to achieve our goals of education and awareness about ovarian cancer. The name Kathleen Bennett and her courageous fight against ovarian cancer will be recognized in this initiative for early detection advocacy and education of the medical establishment. Our Future COCA has an established history, strong permanent and employed leadership, an active and involved Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers, and a solid financial base which allows flexibility in reaching its Mission which is to promote awareness of ovarian cancer through advocacy, education and support. Both Mike Kopcha, KBF Secretary, and I have been elected to COCA’s Board of Directors where we can support COCA’s mission. On behalf of the Board of the Kathleen Bennett Foundation of Hope for Ovarian Cancer, our volunteers, and all who knew and loved Kathy, we thank you for your support, ask for your prayers and encourage you to support COCA through your contributions and participation. Mike and I will remain in touch with you. The website will be updated soon to reflect the change of status of the Kathleen Bennett Foundation. God Bless and Thank You.
